This is the process of transforming information from one format into another.

In this digital, electronic age, most of us own devices which are capable of playing video clips - mobile telephones, PDA's, music players, picture viewers and most importantly, the massively popular Apple iPod.

Many of these devices use different video playback formats and your video will need optimising to achieve the best and most efficient playback result.

Encoding is a key part of the process involved in putting your film or video onto DVD. MPEG2 is the format used by DVD players. The reason this is necessary is to reduce the size of the video file and compress it enough for it to fit onto a disc.

The maximum space available on a DVD disc is 4.7Gb - a 90 minute video file with NO compression weighs in at a minimum of 20 Gb!
